Late blooming rooster or just a weird comb?

I have one EE chicken who has yet to lay, and I’ve thought she was a late developing pullet, especially since her comb looked just like my other laying EE except that it remained pale. I went away for a week and now her comb has gotten much larger than the other EE, such that it looks like what I’ve seen on EE roos.

Could it be this is a late developing rooster or just a hen with a large comb? Her feathers still look like a hen to me.

She's a pullet with a modified pea comb. Her going red means she should start to lay any day now.

Ah good - that’s what I was sort of hoping! I was just thrown by how large her comb has gotten especially compared to the other EE you see there. It also seems to have three rows vs. the other one’s one row which a lot of people seem to connect with roosters.

I know exactly what you mean! It's crazy how much they can change in just a few days.

The comb is a mix of a single and pea comb which is why it is wavy with multiple points and is a bit bigger than a true pea comb.

That’s so interesting, thank you! I never would have guessed how many different kinds of chicken combs even exist.
