Late Feburary-Early March 2016 Hatch-A-Long!

Please read through this hatching thread if you haven't already. Assisting the chick hatch is the very last last last resort. 

Let nature work...my longest has taken 28 hours from pip to zip to out...I know it's exciting but you really want to have everyone healthy and have the best shot. 

I usually do not open my incubator until end of day 22 sometimes start of 23.  It's a rule I picked up from an experienced hatcher on here and it seems to work for me. Chicks have the yolk to live off of for a couple days so it's not an issue. What I have found is that once the chicks start to hatch they all seem to follow right along.  Any eggs that are left at the end often had issues anyhow.

I used to assist some in my hatches...and then watch them die...and cry.

I hope your hatch turns out well   ...for now...go shopping or to the library or something to keep your mind off of your hatch and your fingers out of the incubator! 

I didn't not wait twenty four hours at all. I just saw them this morning and panicked that they couldn't breathe. I've read it partially but will read it again. Ugh!!! I didn't expect to be so freaked out. I'm just scared that they will need help and I don't help but I'm also scared I will help when it's too soon and like you said, accidentally kill them. Ughhh!! I just want them out and safe. I can't even go anywhere to keep myself busy. My ten month old just got out of the hospital yesterday with pneumonia. I do have to run to the store for a vaporizer really quick so that will burn some time up! Thank you for the advice!!!

Day 19 my humidity is between 65 and 70 but when I put my head down near the incubator I hear a faint cheep. (so I have one chick unless the incubator has developed a squeek) should add more water thru the airhole and try to get humidity up?

They will be okay. Just let them get themselves out. You don't want to lose all the humidity in your in bator. The one that pipped in the bottom may be a challenged hatch anyhow...concentrate on the masses not the single one.

I would leave it. 65-70 should be ok. Hatching is all trial by fire & humidity is something you will need to watch to see what does best for your environment & incubator.

(I hatch at 52% because I have a staggered hatch and maybe one or two get stuck out of 40 and there is usually a problem with them anyhow)

Remember a pip does't mean ready to hatch at pip stage, the egg is still full of yolk!!!!

Yeah, I'm trying my best to not even go in there! My humidity is a bit high at 85% so I thought maybe when I opened it, it didn't hurt it too much. Luckily, we got out of the hospital in time for the hatch! She's on the mend now. It was a scary couple of days but she's finally perking back up a bit.

Right. I just panicked a little and wanted to make sure they could breathe. I'm not sure why the one had broken the shell but not the membrane. It was cheeping away at me though! My heart about exploded!

Having a vaporizer in the house probably means you will have a very laid-back approach to hatching. And everything else.

That's good~It's hard when your babies are sick. Maybe by tonight or tomorrow you will have some chicks to keep you busy too! How many do you have in there anyhow?
