Thank you! The little glob fell off and he's still doing well. Just had a dark gray chick hatch tonight too! It's hard to see but I think at least fifty percent have now pipped. Only a couple are starting to zip so far. Can't wait for morning!!
@Danielle2189 This is great! 50% pipped ...fantastic. Just remember they all need time to get out of their little shells. Some more than others! You had an example of a quick pip and zip...but most take their time. They work on the shell..then they rest...then they peep away and work on their shell...then they rest. I love the hatch part- I find it fascinating & wonderful. You are doing great! Just sit back and enjoy. (How's your baby feeling? Any better? I hope you were able to get some sleep last night)

Irrational fear time--my babies have either sleep thru the night or died. No more quiet sounds from the eggs nor has the little pip gotten bigger. Day 20. yes I know it takes time and it's irrational but my only defense is this is my first time lol
You locked them down looking good...now, just rest and wait! Tomorrow will be a great day! They are resting...absorbing those veins and yolk and getting ready to meet you!

This fear, that the chick "can't breathe", is a common one. But if you just take a moment and think, the chick has never breathed before it makes a complete pip...so a partial pip (e.g. shell but not membrane) is just no different than no pip at all.

Yeah, I think I definitely panicked over nothing. Every single one that had pipped yesterday is out and doing well. And more new pips! Thank you!!

Oh gosh, sleep....no sleep. My daughter still isn't doing the best. We have an appointment this morning and hoping to find out more. I have a feeling we are going back to the hospital and getting another iv. :( she just won't hardly eat. Went all night and never peed once. Ugh. Her getting an iv put in was one of the worst moments of my life. But, on the lighter side, twelve sweet little babies are out and doing well. Only a few eggs not pipped. I'm going to switch them to the brooder with food and water if we have to go to the hospital and just hope for the best for them.

I hope you don't wind up back in the hospital with your baby...poor lil thing. I am really glad this hatch is working out so well for you tho! Don't feel rushed to get them into the brooder if you aren't ready yet. They will be fine in there for a while and it won't hurt them a bit! Even if it is tomorrow. (Remember they have that absorbed yolk and don't need the food and water right away...) Prayers to you & your little one.

Great news! Thirteen babies hatched, nine more pipping and just waiting on seven to pip and my daughter is on the mend! No dehydration and lungs sound much better. :) no hospital for us! All the babies look great! I did snatch them out super quick and put them in the other incubator I have running. For some reason, I thought I had 27 eggs left but I guess I have 29 lol. Whoops! They were being little maniacs in there! Lots of different colors. So excited!

Quick question. Hubby does NOT like the chicks and is begging me to put the brooder in the garage. He says they're poop and stuff could be bad for our daughter with her sickness. Temps aren't bad here right now. Pretty much fifties and mid forties at night. The garage has a heater but it's just a little one and probably will keep the garage about sixty with the heat cranked. Will they be okay in there with their heat lamp? It's a 250 watt red bulb. Here's a pic of their brooder with the lid and heat lamp taken off.

Sure. You just need to monitor the temp and adjust the height of the heat lamp for the proper temp.

5 Indian runner ducklings have hatched! They appear to be fawn/white, blue trout, and apricot trout. Of course, I could be wrong.

And. . 4 eggs left that may or may not hatch. I think they may have all died when my incubator's temperature control jammed last week taking the bator to 118F. Count my blessings, I have 5 lovely ducklings.

They may be looking through their membrane to see if you are around, and if so, keep quite...;-]

From the time they start trying to pip, until they are 4-5 days old, every thing they do is unbelievably exhausting for them. Each step often demands they rest and recover, some times for as much as 24 hours. Couple that with the viability of their genetic background, the temperature and RH% of your bator, the treatment of the eggs prior to being put into the bator, and there can be a lot of factors that either dictate they hatch slowly, or not at all.

At this stage in your hatch, nothing you can do can alter the effect of any of the above.

Assisting a hatch, IMO, is merely delaying the death of that chick. If they cannot hatch naturally, there are a lot of natural things they will be unable to do, or less likely to succeed at later in life. If you are hatching to gain a pet, please assist all you feel you can, but if you are hatching to get additional birds, never assist.
