Late Hatch....How long is too long?

Do you have more eggs you could try again with? because that is the only thing that makes me give up if things are not going too well. I would rather start over and wait another 21 days today, then wait another 4 days and then have to start all over. I just had this happen...I set 10 eggs, and then candled them on day 5...Nothing in any of them...so I though hey, I'll wait...but by day 11 I could no longer kid myself...the eggs were every one infertile...so I wasted 11 days for nothing, when I could have started the next batch of 24 eggs 6 days sooner than I did. The current eggs are doing well now. And only 1 week left til hatch. 4 days to lock down! I'm eggcited. hopefully it all goes well. If not, then I'll try again.

thanks for the reply :)
he in malta we have a local shop which stocks eggs for hacthing at very good prices, for things like geese swans and several kinds of fancy chickens, so getting myself a new batch is no problem... Im in no hurry, especially since id better be focusing on my A levels right now, so i guess i can wait a bit longer :p as for the uneven development in the eggs ive been thinking might have partly been the fault of the fan which was way too weak to even out the temperature in the incubator, and since i had a wide tray of eggs with just the probe in the middle, i could have had no idea what the temperature was around the perimeter of the tray :/ so i guess i should invest in a more powerful computer fan :p

good luck on your hatch ;)

Thank you. I hope yours works out alright as well. it is such a letdown when you wait and wait and count down the days and then on the day you've been waiting for nothing happens...

Out of 18 eggs we only got the one chick. We opened the eggs and found three fully developed but dead. Some were partially formed, some had nothing.

When the one chick started hatching we heard lots of chirping - didn't think it could have been just one chick. The one hatched quickly and then ran over the top of all the eggs rolling them around the incubator. I wonder now if the three fully developed drown after being rolled.

Not sure on the reason for such a failed hatch. Not sure on the candling or the water float test. When candling on day 14, all had something there. With the float test, all floated like they were supposed to - 15% out of the water. Not sure about any of it now.

Going to try again. Went out and bought a friend for the one lonely chick this morning.

All in all, one chick is still awesome. You brought a little animal into the world that would not be here without you. And it is more fun to watch 2 chicks run around then watching 40 run around. You can't really keep your eye on all 40.

two have broken through the shell!!! im so excited!! my hopes have been restored :p
i hope they wont need help :p ill post pics when i can ;)
