Late hatch...

Back around mid July my peahen laid 4 eggs then quit. Due to things going on I set them late and didn't get more than a few blood rings. A few weeks later she laid 4 more, all started forming then at the end when I raised the humidity and lowered the temp by 1 degree, they quit. Mid August she laid the last three and I put them in the incubator as I found them. Long story short, out of the three I had one hatch last Friday (the 14th). So he/she is an only child and this late in the year will have to be in the house for the winter. Any advise is appreciated! I have a cover on the tub it's in for now, it already almost flew out.

My hen is a Silver Pied, the choices for the father are:
A) The male I got when I got her - he was supposed to be Black Shoulder but is at the least dark pied BS. I see pics of BS with the beautiful black wings with green iridescense, his are like that on the lower parts but on the upper part it's more like a faded dark brown.
B) Their two year old son (Silver Pied).

Here is the new baby (pics from today so almost a week old). Is it going to be an India Blue? How old are they when the barring shows if they are male or female?

Reading through some other posts, it sounds like around 3 months is when I should be able to tell. I'd like to get some opinions on the color, it looks lighter than India Blue chicks I see in pictures?

Really? I was hoping for something a little sooner, lol. About you chick looking lighter, two of mine that that hatched also looked lighter, maybe even more red, and I think they're both boys. Maybe lighter equals male?

I'd take a guess at dark pied white eyed (at least one copy white eyed). Knowing how many copies of white eyed it has may be difficult to tell till it matures. BS dark pied on silver pied would produce pied white eyed and dark pied white eyed. If their two year old son is in fact silver pied, then your BS dark pied male must carry at least one copy of the white eyed gene (silver pied carries two, and receive one from the father and one from the mother). This would then produce silver pied, pied white eyed, dark pied white eyed (two copies) and dark pied white eyed (one copy). Silver pied on silver pied will produce offspring that are white white eyed, dark pied white eyed and silver pied.

So do you think it will be India Blue? It just looks lighter than most that I see, and reddish like casportpony mentioned. This is their 2 year old son:



I forgot to mention, my dark pied male doesn't have any white eyes.
