Lattice for top of pen?

Any disadvantages to using lattice as the covering of my chicken pen? Should it be wood or plastic? Lattice w smaller holes/ ‘tight’ pattern? Just looking for ideas to finish off my pen. I’m covering an area about 8x12 ft.

My biggest concern with lattice is rodents and whatnot getting in. otherwise it could look really nice if done well.
