Lav Orp Roos, Who's the Best Looking?

I think the standard leg color on the Lavenders will be slate or dark. 312 is looking the best but remember you have to put these birds back on Black Orpingtons alot in breeding and they are no where near orp standards as of yet. It's called patience, lots of room and hatchings and good breeding standards.

None of the Lav roosters or Split Black roosters that I have had in the past have good Orpington manners!!!

Yep, I am still looking for some nice black orps to hatch out.... or buy... joined the orpington club for a list of Michigan members to start close to home if possible.

Tuff.... you offering up some black orp eggs??? grin Im running into everyone having black/blue/splash..

LMAO editing for the 3rd time.. question being new... should I breed truer to feathering, body, comb etc to start.. Which is the hardest to correct.. I assume I should go for feathering and body comformation and clean up the combs down the road.

4th edit.. lol.. reading through the time and patience... lol.. nothing but time here.. And Im happy to report hubby didnt like the chicken dust that floated to our storage side of the coop and I now own the 11x12 area that I can put dividers in.. woot wooot...

I know the color in the standard for self blue old english is slate,so i'm guessing they would go with the same in orp.

What is the leg and skin colour for a black orp? I would think that that would be correct for lavender. Also, are they supposed to have gypsy faces? The 2nd photo looks to me like the best type, but orpingtons aren't my breed preference, so I'm not as certain as I would be with some other breeds.

I think with any species of animal, your biggest concern is type. I believe if you get that right it is your biggest challenge and then work on the color from there.

Breed for body first then you can work on the color then comb...
A old breeder told me that you build the barn then you paint it... ( the barn being the chicken frame and paint being the feather color )

I like #2.

I have a pen of the Lav orp project birds from Jody and Charlie's stock. Also a pen of black orps. Let me know if you are ever interested in some black orp eggs. My black roo is one big boy!

I'm not wild about any of them but since this is what you have to work from #2 is closest to Orpington type.
