YIPPEE! Oh, how exciting. :D I so wish I could be there to see them.

Good news for me, however. I found out that a friend of mine has an incubator and she's letting me borrow it. So I'll be able to hatch out some for myself. WOOHOO, :jumpy

Now, I just need to brood the BA's that are coming In 2 weeks, then I'll be looking for some Lav Am eggs to hatch. I guess I better get busy coop building, lol :p

The crazy thing is the chicks on the right are from a pure Lavender rooster and a all white Amerucana but the chicks came out black and Lav? Where did the black come from?

white is recessive, as is lavender. generally under lavender is black and under white is black - which explains the black chicks.

However, I am unsure of how you got lavender chicks from the hatch - you shouldn't have.

Is it possible that the hen was bred by a lavender before the white cock bird?

oops went back and reread, maybe the white carries lavender

BarrettG where did you spend 400 for 4 lavenders? That price is simply outrageous. Were these adults? And from what breeder?

They were at 4 months old when I bought them. They were really 60 a Lav but with the shipping it came out to $100 a chicken. I got them directly from Paul Smith himself. He said they are show quality birds. I just did my first hatch. At the time I set the eggs only one was laying. Now all 3 are laying. I hope for a better turnout on the next round. Have you heard of or bought birds from Paul Smith? Feel free to message me

I had 2 types of eggs. 1 type is from straight Lavs both the mom and dad. the other type of eggs are from the Lav rooster and a white Amerucana hen. What does that make the chicks, Easter Eggers?

The problem is that the are carrying a recessive white gene and the recessive lavender gene. I don't know what will happen when you have both of those together. I would think they would be white.

I wouldn't want to use them as breeders, I would sell them as easter eggers.
