If he is a he, will have to go back. I want a girly, for the blue eggs.

I will try to get some close up pictures of the feathers and post later. Have to feed the family right now.

If they sold that bird to you as a lavender, then they obviously are not very good breeders. That bird is a splash. And it looks like a cockerel judging by body type and feathering. Comb says pullet, but true Am's have small combs anyways.
 
I would go by the width of the comb rather than the size and he is pretty red and I see some sickles. Lavenders and splashes can be easily mistaken if you bought him as a chick. They have very similar down color.

Thank you Jean. They are listed in the ABC Breeders Directory, so I'm sure they are good people.

I just sent an email to the breeder to see if they would like him back and to see if they have a female at least 6 months old. If he has good splash coloring, they may like to have him back for their breeding program. He was sold to me as a Lavender Pullet, so I would think they would let me exchange him.​
