We have 3 Lavender Cochin Hens. They are amazing; I love them. Very friendly and sweet, and easy to handle.
However, they have had some odd health issues. Does anyone here know these birds well?
1. They are losing the feathers on their head only. I put some diatamaceous earth incase mites, but i see nothing.
2. Two of them were sitting on eggs last winter for a long time together and when they were done, their ears
are white instead of red like the one that was not brooding. They whine more than ordinary and it's still white.
3. I have one now that appears to be moulting, the others are pecking at her and she has red bare spots and
the naked head for quite awhile.
Any help is greatly appreciated. Jillian

How much space do they have? coop and run size?
They have the run of our barn; it's big alot of space. Since it's so large it's not kept really clean, but I add straw in the stalls. They lay eggs together with Brahma's and our duck in one nest. I did read that the feathers missing on the head can be a night time mite?? I do not see any mites.
