Lavender Genetic Project

Self blue often is used to describe a lavender that is solid colored. These are black chickens pure for lavender. So if the goal is for "self blues" then it is necessary to involve genes for solid black birds. For example, for Dutch, use solid blacks to develop "self blue" dutch.

Don't have any lavenders but hope to acquire either a lavender or birds carrying lavender to work with here soon..

Kev, there will be plenty of LF Lavender in the next few months to go around with the few breeders that have them now, they should be spreading them around in no time....Bantams shouldn't be to hard to come by now....

That is great news! At the very least I want only one bird to use a test.. but got to say some of the lavender breeds are very appealing..

Have been looking at bantams also, however clean legged ones seem hard to come by?

I would really like to get some of those bantam lavender eggs this spring whenever... bators are up and running, have room right now if they are laying...

I've got 6 of Shaffer's lavender kids running around out back. Three are visually lavender; the other three are not, although they carry the lav gene. Genders aren't altogether clear yet.

I've also got Black, Blue and Silver Ameraucanas from Pips n Peeps, and I don't really know yet who I'm going to be putting together in the breeding pens.

I was thinking about mixing one of those lavenders with one of my Cuckoo Marans???? Most for the purpose of getting olive eggs....

Until at least February I'm just letting everyone free range all day, so no breeding until the cold and rain are on their way out....
