I just have a quick question that I've looked and looked for the answer to. So I'm probably looking in the wrong places.

Is lavender silver or gold based?

It can be either. For a good clean lavender without cream in the hackles, silver can help to remove that pigment, but the best lavenders are a smooth clean black bird underneath, without any leakage.

Thanks. I haven't ever worked with lavender. I know blue is silver based. It was bugging me a lot about the lavender

Again, blue can be either. Think of it like this; Blue and Lavender (and chocolate, dun, dominant white, recessive white) are diluters of black. A black bird can be silver or gold.

A bird has to be on an e-series, or two, never more. It can be extended black, birchen, partridge, wheaten, etc.
It has to have a groundcolour; this can be either gold or silver (males can be both).
Anything else is extra; genes that dilute or promote a pigment are not always present and aren't linked to any e-series or groundcolour in particular.

Take a look at this link, which can help you with the basics of genetics. It's an interesting subject and will really help you with figuring out what interesting genetics your birds have.
