Lavender in the coop?

I was told by a friend that hanging lavender in the chicken coop helps keep flys out. I was wondering if there is any truth to this and if its safe for the chickens (in case they would eat it)?

Basil, lavender, mint and rosemary are all natural fly repellents.

Oh great! thanks for the info ... I think I see some fresh herbs being planted around my coop in the near future.

My flock don't care much for eating lavender, but it is safe for them to ingest.
