I picked up these 2 lovely additions to my flock over the weekend and I was pretty sure I had 1 Blue and 1 Lavendar Ameraucana girls. Upon snuggles I notice that the one I assumed was lavender has some black feathers and ticking. Is it still possible she's lavendar or more likely that she is a very evenly colored splash? The eggs they hatched from came from cackle I think and they offer both blue and lavender colored Ameraucanas so 🤗

Poorly marked (but very pretty) splash. It happens when you breed splash to splash without adding in blues, it tends to become washed out. Lavender wouldn't have the black markings and would be an even tone from head to tail where as splash being two copies of the blue gene have darker heads

I'll admit I had hoped for lavendar since I think my rooster is also a lav but oh well. I'm doing a test hatch with them in the spring so I'll know for sure then.

oooo do you have pics of your boy? :O If he's lavender, when bred to your boy she should produce chicks who are blue! then if you bred back a daughter to him, or to eachother you should be able to make lavender chicks! :D
Good point that I hadn't thought of!

The test hatch is in and it seems like he is lavendar and she is splash. Most chicks are blue and I have a handful of blacks that I think came from the blue hen. Ignore the sex-links in the box! I hatched out several barred rock/ameraucana mixes at the same time to fill out the incubator.
