For those following our lavender orpington project, we have provided some updates on our web site but I figured I would share this info here as well.

Lester is now a grandpa and Lucas & Big Bear are new fathers.

So far we have had 2 hatches and more are coming weekly.

We are so excited that everything is progressing so well and is looking right on target for spring selections.

Our first hatch, 12 eggs went to the hatcher from Big Bear's pen and all 12 hatched. 3 Lav chicks and 9 Black or Split Lav/Black chicks. Here's a couple pics we took to show the lav color in comparison to the black.

Our second hatch, 16 of Big Bear's eggs went to the hatcher - 6 Lav and 9 blacks hatched. 1 egg did not hatch. We also set 4 Lucas eggs and all 4 hatched!

There are several other folks who purchased split lav project birds from us to work on this wonderful project. Those that are working on this project with us and were members from BYC will be receiving a 2nd line of free lavender eggs to improve diversity in their stock. You know who you are, so please let us know when you're ready for them.

Hello, Jody
You know I am sure you remember me, you know I am working with the Project Lavendars you sold me. I just love purple birds! I would love to get some of these eggs when they are available. To help add diversity into my project.
Thanks JKPNelly

Jody how egg-citing!!! You must be just glued to that bator, seeing if the hatchlings are black or lavender! What a great start, that second generation is thrilling (2nd generation already??? where did the time go??).

Thanks everyone. It is very exciting and I was thrilled to see 40% lavenders on a split to split breeding on the 2nd hatch, which typically only calls for 25% like what we got in the 1st hatch. I am hoping it continues this way. So far all chicks appear very healthy and are doing well.
