ok so i have 2 lavender orpingtons. they’re said to be 4 weeks old- they look a bit younger. im just curious if they’re old enough to guess their gender?

the lighter one on the left is yellow, and the darker one on the right is blue. blue is only a day or 2 younger than yellow, but is developing feathers a lot slower, but they’re also much darker. this is making me thing that blue is a roo? im not sure though. also blue has like, absolutely no feathering nor fluff underneath the wings. just skin. im not sure what thats about either. im pretty sure that yellow is a hen, just not sure about blue.

here’s blue’s comb from another angle

and here’s what i mean by bare skin under the wing:

(i dont know if the bare skin has anything to do with gender, just figured i’d throw it in here)

Now wait 2 more weeks. But the good news is that nothing screams rooster on any of the pics.

Too young to sex! Bare skin under the wings is completely normal and not indicative of gender :) Here's a pic of my Red Orpington Mabel when she was a baby and it looks very similar :) Even as adults sometimes under the wings their feathers are a bit sparse!
