Lavender Orpington project ....

Yes, that is a Lavender Mottled chick.

Can anyone share with me the breeding % of Mottled x Mottled if I decide to set up a mottled breeding pen? What about Mottled X Lav Roo? I have hatched 2 sets of eggs and bought a set of Lav chicks over the past few months to pick the best ones for breeding next year. I was not considering anything with mottled until I ended up with 3 mottled chicks out of these eggs, but now it sounds fun to play with! Thanks!

Just a question. Do you have any black orpingtons to breed your best type lavenders to next year?

can everyone tell me what color are the toenails on your lavenders (research project) also if they have a large spot by the toes like white toes that would make the white vs another color if they didn't have the spot there.

thanks

In ours, the toenails are a somewhat blueish-slate color like the shanks. However, white in the toenail probaly should not be considered a DQ, just perhaps a defect. Since no "official: standard exist in the US, this is an issue we will have to compare and agree on at some point.

I was noticing alot of photos of lavender have the lighter toenails. do you have pictures that show your birds's feet?

Oops, I thought ours was darker. Just chgecked while iw as out there and the toenaiuls are ....

WHITE! But a dirty white.

In ALL Self Blue breeds, the bottom of the feet should be the same color as that breeds normal shank and skin color. Orpington has white skin, thus should have white foot bottoms.

The three chicks that looked mottled appear to be feathering in white- what does everyone think at 12 days old? Thanks!

That looks like a white chick. Is it possible a White breed egg was included by accident? or do you have White birds in your flocks background? Your photo looks like a pure white. There has been some white sports in Buff Orps of late. I would contact whomever you got your eggs from and ask questions. You may have a valuable bird or just Sunday dinner.

ETA: It is definetly not a mottled.
