Lavender Orpington project ....

Last weekend we acquired a breeding pen of nice 6 month old Lavender/Self Blue Orpingtons. They are about 6 months old and have really good Orpington type. We have listed a pair of them at

Here are my 2 roo.s Midnight is part English.Sterling is well a lavender
I know you cant tell much with the fencing or from my phioto. Midnight is VERY black with a wide back and a green sheen which you cant see here
But Sadly have to be penned b/c of the dogs and hawks .
Midnight is 15 weeks and Sterling 14.My LOs seem to have long legs compared to the nice ones on here. Do you think breeding the hens to Midnight would help ?Or should I invest in some good lines.

Well, I think the experts (one of which I am not) would say that it is best to breed lavender roosters to black hens because the offspring seem to get more of their type from their mother; however, since you already have a black roo that appears to be pretty nice stock, i would say breed him to your lavender hens and see what you get. After all, it seems that you would get some improvement from the cross and you already have the rooster. You just may have more culls. Ok that is just my honest opinion. Maybe one of the experts on her will chime in.

Hi,

Are people actually breeding Lavender Cuckoos? I was offered a Lavender Cuckoo rooster and declined because I don't want to build another breeding pen. I think he is still available if anyone needs a roo.
