Lavender Orpington project ....

I can't remember when Doug said it. It might be on another site or an email that he sent me talking about the UK variety. He says the standard is 3 inches from the skirt down. An inch too much or too little is a DQ. Like the weight is suppose to be 10 lbs for a cock. IF he is an ounce over 11 lbs it is a DQ and the same is for being less then 9 lbs is a DQ.
I have talked to others breeders who show alot, and they say when ever one brings an obvious UK bird the judges will write "too much fluff or Cochin" and DQ them. Either way, I like the fluff, so I will take the Bamma girl I have to a leggier male and try to maximize the best of both worlds.

Yes, it's in the American Standard of perfection. I have a 2001 copy..not sure if there's a newer one yet. I know they were working on one, but I don't think it's been distributed.

I know there is an old version online, but not sure what it contains or how accurate it is anymore. I'll see if I can find the link.

I prefer the look of the Orpingtons around the turn of last century. They are shorter in the back, not as short as the UK type of today. Rounder and more fluffier. Somewhere inbetween the UK and APA in length of the legs. I wouldn't complain IF the decide to go back to those standards.

I like this look.....
