Lavender Orpington project ....

Lost one of my 2yro Lav Split Orp's tonight. She died due to an incident with my horse being a clumpsey and not looking before she backed up over her. Poor betsy you will be missed

Hey Everyone-

I thought I would post an update here on my Lavender Orps since a few different people from this thread have PM'ed me about the situation. The 5 that are still living have done a little better each day. I think they are going to end up making it at this point. I am rather irritated with the breeder, but thought I would post a couple pictures to get some input. I think one of the main issues is that they sent chicks that were over a day-old (although they haven't admitted to doing it). I still think something unusual may have happened in transit, like the chicks were exposed to heat or something noxious, but I have to think that shipping chicks that were not all day-olds had an impact as well (there's a reason doing that is illegal).

I took some pics Thursday night. The chicks were shipped last Thursday, so supposedly these would all be one week old. You can plainly see how much they vary in size (some of them I think are slightly stunted as well because as I said previously, the first few days they were near death, barely eating or drinking). Chicks don't hatch in small, medium, and large, LOL. Thus far, the breeder did get back to me and of course, said she has had no other issues and that the chicks were from last week's hatch. She said she would replace or refund the ones that arrived dead or died in 72 hours. Am I right for thinking she should refund ALL of the ones that died since clearly something was wrong from arrival AND she shipped chicks over a day old? The thing is I wouldn't ask for a refund period if all the chicks were obviously day-olds. To me, it is obvious the chicks are of varying ages. Who knows how old they were and without food/water.

Let me know what you think. Here are the chicks. Again, only 5 out of 14 survived...
