I just wanted to let everyone know how my hen is doing. All of a sudden her legs became paralized. She was the only one that this happened to and this was a first for me to experience.

Anyway, I have been babying her, feeding her rice, egg, cheese and fruit. She's eating and drinking very well. But yesterday I saw her standing on her...knees...if you will. Her feet and legs still don't work but she moves around and her crop is working better too. She seems very alert and is interested in what the other girls are doing in their pen.

And something else I noticed, the feathers on top of Lavern's head are coming back but they look like the soft, white ones. And since Lavern has been getting a lot of extra TLC the other girls have started to poop in their nest boxes. And several times I have seen broken eggs. I try to give all of them lots of time and attention but I think the other girls want all those treats too. I thought I was giving them their share too. I guess not.

Oh well, if Lavern starts to walk on her legs again I'll post it.

Thanks for the help and concern.

Lavern is now walking on her legs and feet. And today she seemed very interested in getting back into the nesting box. I helped her into one and she stayed there for a good hour. She didn't lay anything but it was good to see her getting better. I put her in with the other girls and they beat her up terribly, made her comb bleed so I put her back into the smaller pen. She had the new girls with her for about 2 weeks, to keep her company. But they wanted to go out with the others and they were interested in my Roo. He did his little dance then the new girls walked away from him. He looked totally insulted. Lavern still isn't back to 100%. I noticed she seems to miss what she's pecking at, unless I hold it closer to her face. Also 3 of the new girls hopped into the nesting boxes. I was hoping my EE would lay, she didn't. I think they were just testing the waters, so to speak. Oh and Bonnie is broody. She is sitting on one of her eggs. I slipped 2 other eggs under her with the hopes she'll take care of them as well. She's been on them all day.

Anyway, happy weekend all.
