That is sort of what I was thinking as well. But you'd be surprised how often they in fact do not know some laws. I'm pretty sure though in their defense that they've never had to look that one up before. Plenty of people in this area have chickens and no one ever complains. And they aren't going to try to enforce a law like that w/out having had complaints. Unless, in this case, the officer was angry at me (because I was angry at him for not wanting to enforce the law regarding having dogs out loose 24/7 - who happened to have killed a couple of my chickens IN MY OWN YARD, the evidence of which was beyond doubt) so he was trying to find a way to punish me.^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Officer, if you're going to enforce the law,, shouldn't you know the law??
After that choice encounter with Houston's Finest, I'll depend on my own resources and forget the rest. At least I'll go in armed with knowledge and not look silly by saying I didn't know.
