Agreed for the most part. In 60 years at this location many dogs have shown up, caused little/no problems and been returned to their owners. The one exception was a nice black lab who killed more than 40 birds while we were on vacation. Animal control agent pressed charges as this was the third incident with this dog.Yeah, I think it’s a little ridiculous how everyone is exaggerating the aggression of loose dogs.
I’m not saying that that they aren’t all aggressive, I know they are out there. Goodness, I’m sorry!Agreed for the most part. We both look at this subject the same way. I felt bad for the dog because of his incompetent owners. He had been here before and was caught/controlled before he could kill. Good dog/bad owners.I’m not saying that that they aren’t all aggressive, I know they are out there. Goodness, I’m sorry!
When you have a loose dog destroy your flock of ducks in one go, and then your neighbors chicken flock the next morning, it's hard to go back to 'they're probably not a threat'.Yeah, I think it’s a little ridiculous how everyone is exaggerating the aggression of loose dogs
I completely understand that and I’m sorry, that is awful. When you have a loose dog destroy your flock of ducks in one go, and then your neighbors chicken flock the next morning, it's hard to go back to 'they're probably not a threat'.
Traumatic situations are terrible, I'm so sorry. Still, generalizing isn't really productive. Some humans go around killing animals and other people just because they can or want to. Does that make every person a potential murderer? I'd say not. When you have a loose dog destroy your flock of ducks in one go, and then your neighbors chicken flock the next morning, it's hard to go back to 'they're probably not a threat'.
That’s exactly the way I look at it. If the dog is causing no harm I’ll find the owners, but if it’s actively hurting anything of mine it’s a different story.I lost one bird to a neighbor's loose dog last year and had another bite me and my dog (thankfully he only nicked me) while I was bringing him back inside. I gauge my reaction on a case by case basis. I will try and help a dog who isn't an active threat get home but i will defend myself and my animals from a dog if needed
