Lay chicken wire flat under the run instead of burying it?

I'm very new to this and am going to attempt to build the run this weekend. I was wondering if I could lay the wire flat on the ground and have it come out under the run a foot or two instead of burying it. Then I could just build a simple frame and plop it down over the wire. Does that make sense? Thanks.

That is what we plan to do this weekend. It was suggested to us by other members on this forum.

Not sure how far out is a "safe" distance, we plan to do 3 feet from the run.

Oh, let me add, we dug a trench a couple inches deep and have the vertical wire terminating in the trench. Then we are laying the horizontal wire flat on the ground and bending it down into the trench where it meets the vertical wire.

Then pouring cement in the trench to cement the two together.

That is probably overkill, but really you just need to make sure no one can push through where the two sets of wire meet.

We have ours dug in a trench 12 inches down on most of our run. Then a small "added" section, I dug in 6 inches and laid block on the outside 6 inches wide. We have never had a problem.

I think the quoted # is 8 inches down or 12 inches out....either one or the other to keep preditors out. I personally like to do a bit of overkill and increase the numbers just to be safe...

Maybe not necessary tho....
