Im getting my birds on thursday and im in the uk...
I know branding names may differ from country to country so i was interested if anybody could give me a rough guide as to percentages what would qualify as a decent layer pellet i.e. protein % calcium % etc..I dont want to get blinded by the price and i know garden centres are going to have their own brands and prices are going to fluctuate..i would much rather spend a bit more than buy a 20 kilo sack thats cheap but in essence isnt giving the birds what they need the prices are so diverse..my local garden centre do a 20k sack for £5 ($8) and also do a sack (cant remember the brand) for £12...hoping u can help

I'm in the UK too and often buy Marriage's from a local farm, they do a 20kg bag for £9 my birds do well on this also Dodson and Horrell are quite good as are fancy feeds they are all roughly the same though and if your birds are free ranging they will eat bugs and seeds plus greens and if you feed them veggies you may find they do equally well on the £5 bag and some mixed corn occasionally, I never really stick to one brand, at the moment my birds are on cheap layers as the farm had run out of Marriage's but once Marriage's is back in stock I will get it again, I think it had extra marigold or something to make their yolks more yellow which I like :) you may find your birds prefer one brand over the other so see how they go and if money permits.
