hi i have some young chickens there at point of lay. is feeding them layer pellets sufficent or do they need other food?

If they are laying...layer pellets are fine for them. They will also need Oyster shell.....for shell thickness. Just put a bowl of it out there free choice. They will eat what they need...they know. In the colder months...a little corn, or scratch is good as well...for body heat.

If you should happen to live in Tennessee, they should get enough rocks from scratching in the run or if free grazing from that, My ladies have very hard shells, and all they get in the rocks in the run.

Owned by 12 RIR's,1Pitt bull, 1 poodle mix, 1 yorkie, 1 crabby gray cat, and(Still) babysitting 1 great Dane.

I quit feeding mine oyster shells because sometimes the shells would still be fragile. What I finally decided to feed is layer pellets mixed with black oil sunflower seeds and diatamaceous earth. During the Winter months, I add game bird breeder pellets 50/50 with layer pellets for increased protein.
Hey sundance,I'm in West Tn.
