Just a little report from the field. Actually, a report from the basement.

This summer, for various reasons, I seem less resilient in the heat. Phooey. Never phased me before. Anyway, I decided to bring the duckies in when the temps hit 90F and we all took a nap.

One advantage to this odd little way to spend some time this afternoon is that while I was sitting here trying to nap, I noticed that Romy, Zehn and Fünf were mouth breathing a little bit, and when they closed their bills, had some nose whistles. Now, all three of them have been semi broody this week. Coincidence?

Aside from Fünf being major cranky pants, no one has seemed under the weather in any way. I wonder if the hormones that rev up during broodiness charge up their metabolism, like having hot flashes?

I am so grateful there is a forum upon which I can share these little observations and questions.

Where else could I ponder about ducks having hot flashes?

Heavens, so much to learn - now duckie hot flashes!

Poor duckies, I thought we humans had cornered the market on that!
Hope it cools down for your sake and the duckies!

Yeah this weather is making me and George very cranky. She goes ballistic over everything. I have been checking all day to see what she's quacking about. They even went to bed early tonight. I went out to put them up and seen George going in the pen so I hurried out there and the mallards were in the coop part sleeping. The mallards have never put themselves up before so strange things are really going on.
