laying age

Conventional wisdom says 4-6 months. I have four Barred rock hens that were hatched March 18th, and have no eggs yet. Roosters from the same batch just started growing this morning. Each type seems to be a little different but they average in the 4-6 month range. (in my limited expirience and research)

4-6 months is what is pretty average for production breeds like leghorns and sexlinks who's lines have been made for eggs. The average backyard bird though, will lay anywhere between 5-8 months and be normal.
