So, two interesting things going on here. First off, one of our 18 week old hens laid an egg this morning. And secondly, I believe said hen to be the same girl that set up for me to breed her right before I picked her up. Gosh, that was a awkward way to put it... what is the terminology for that?? And, I have still not finished their coop.... these girls are all in the basement still.... now they freely roam a 12' by 40' space of our unfinished daylight basement. There is litter on the floor but I will be sandblasting it I think to clean it after they move into there coop!!

And they really aren't 18 weeks until this Friday. I think it was one of the Buff Orpingtons but the Barred Rocks have really red combs/wattles.

My hen was 17 weeks when she layed her first egg :O she turns 18 weeks on Thursday.
People told me it's normal for them to start laying eggs between 4-6 months :)

Well, my Birdie layed an egg everyday from when she first laid an egg

Penny one of my slw layed her first egg Sunday and it has been every other day since. My second slw skitz layed her first egg yesterday so we will see this afternoon if she will lay everyday. I think it really just depends on the chicken. Penny has layed small to medium sized eggs since Sunday and skitz popped out a large egg her first time. Really just think it's how their body is maturing and how long it takes them to get in a routine with things.

RIR 18weeks and got our first egg today!!!! Little small but good shell. Yeah!!!! Better get the nesting boxes finished LOL
