So one or both of our barred rock pullets started laying. (Their eggs are the same color as my dc hen, and she usually lays every day, but if she skips then the other br is laying as well). Anyway the last two days the egg was cracked. More like squished than eaten. The shell does not seem extra soft, maybe a little softer than the older hens shells, but not super fragile feeling. Is there something I can do to fix it. (Yesterday it was laid on the floor and broken, today it was in the nest box but broken.) It was all there including the egg and yoke all over the nest, YUK! That was fun to clean! So they arent eating it.
Is this just something they will outgrow, or is there something I should do? They eat the same as the older hens and they have really hard shells (no fun to peel if you hard boil them). This is only the third day we have had the extra little brown egg. (I know it is one of the br, or both and they are alternating days lol)
