We got our first 4 eggs today!! I know one of them came from my single White Leghorn because she is our only one that lays a white egg. Our nine other girls are all brown egg layers. 2 RIRs, 3 BA, 2 BOs, 1 GLW and 1 SLW.

How can I tell who the three who are laying brown eggs are when NONE of them exhibit any squatting behavior in my presence. I don't think it is either of the RIRs because they are very friendly and follow me around and still no squatting. The others act like I am not to be trusted and scatter when I come around. This is obviously a result of the unfair abuse of free ranging, providing their favorite treats, scratch grains, and yogurt (their favorite). It is HORRIBLE that they must endure such tortures.

Anyway, will they ever get used to me? And how can i tell who is laying if they don't squat? I spend HOURS outside with them everyday. Even the leghorn that I KNOW is laying is mum about the situation.

congratulations! They must appreciate you some. as they are supplying you with eggs. If you spend time with them in the morning, it will become obvious who is laying, as they will spend a lot of time in the nestbox, then probably do the egg song. Though I have one that just seems to go through the motions everyday...They also seem to mellow out after they start laying, so don't give up hope for friendly chickens.
