Laying eggs in coop question

I too have a 4 ft. x 4 ft. coop. I put the two nest boxes off the side towards my walk for easy access to collect eggs and so that I wasn't taking up interior real estate. My 4 Golden Buffs tend to lay their eggs between 10am and 11am, each taking their turn then giving a little :ya shout as they head out to the run again.

I did get one egg layed in the run, under the coop this second day I had them but a golf ball in each nest box for a day got them all laying in the right spot. They were all laying in one box at first but now they lay in both.

Did you have to train them to use the nesting boxes? our coop will be done this weekend but our chickens are already laying by a tree, do I need to do anything special to teach them how to now lay in the nesting boxes?
