Laying Eggs in the Run

I have wire under the run and I also rake it out once a week and add fresh sand to cover the wire. Also, my math was wrong. They are 8 months old. They have been laying for a couple of months. Usually, I have one or two in the morning and then a couple more later in the day. They have always just went inside and layed their egg and then are right back out.

Yes. They all pile together in the middle. I've read that silkies do not usually roost. I made them a roost in the rabbit hutch this summer but they never used it but all piled in the back nesting area to sleep. The lid is closed and the front is open. I got the freezer and hutch from a coworker who got rid of her chickens.

So they sleep and lay in the box(freezer?) with straw....no roosts or nest boxes??
Is freezer lid usually closed...with no ventilation?
We drilled 16 holes along the top of the freezer. I have been getting 4 to 5 eggs daily since and all inside the freezer. Thank you!
