Question - My EE who is the only one laying so far, seems to not prefer the nesting boxes. She makes a nest in the back of the coop. There's no way to alter my coop to lower the boxes. I wish I had taken more time to figure out what I really wanted for my coop, but how do I connvince her to use the nest. I had golf balls in it and the first day she did lay in it. Last egg was on the coop floor, should I put the golf balls out again? I know she is a new layer so wanted to see what others thought here. I keep praying for more to lay, at least 3 others squat but no eggs still. :( lol Any ideas to get her into the box or do you think she will figure it out?

Yes, leave the golf balls in all but one of the nests (one of my pullets didn't like the golf balls).
I leave them in all the time.

I will do that, I only have 2 nesting boxes and I am concerned it will be a problem evenutally. I know you can have up to 3 birds per nesting box and the owner of the coop did it before me. I will put them back out there. I was just out there and the nexting boxes had been messed with and she seems to move all the straw/hay two the side and make the bare wood bottoms show. I pray she lays soon, she seems to squawk and then gets distracted. lol

It can take them up to a month or so for things to smooth out, so expect the possibility of strange eggs in strange places.

I kind of figured but wanted to make sure. I keep wishing for more eggs but I know soon, I will be getting more just need to be patient.

Found 2 eggs today. 1 in a box the other cracked under roost poll. Could it be falling out while roosting. Have 6 girls total. Got them april 12 being just a few days old. Are they on time to start laying.
