I have 6 chickens, 4 blacksex links, and 2 barred rocks. One of my se links is laying about every other day. She just started a week ago. None of my other hens are laying yet and I can't figure out why. They are all the same age, 24 weeks now. Keep everything very clean, fresh clean water, and food always available. Any hints or tips? I have 5 nesting boxes which should be plenty for 6 hens. Tried golf balls in the nesting boxes which didn't work at all, removed them this morning and boom, went back 30 min later to find a egg.

Hi :welcome

Glad you could join the flock! Even hens of the same breed don't always start laying at the exact same time. Each one is individual and I'm sure your others won't be far behind in the egg laying department. You sound like your doing great with your girls so I'm afraid it's the waiting game now fro more eggs.

Wishing you the very best of luck with them in the future and enjoy BYC :frow

Thank you, my layer (big red) was laying every other day between 3 and 3:30 pm, she changed it up today and laid one first thing this morning. I hope she starts laying every day now.

She may or may not but that's all quite normal. Some new layers can take a while to get into regular egg laying. But once the laying machine gets into full working order they often do. It takes around 25 hours for the hen to produce an egg so different times of laying are quite normal.

Here is a lovely article on egg facts, I found it a great read ~ https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/interesting-facts-about-chicken-eggs
