Laying eggs

I had my first egg at 17 1/2 weeks and one at 18 1/2 weeks. Is this unusual? Everything I read they start at 6 months.

Some start before 6 mos. Mine started between 20 weeks and about 30-ish weeks. It all really depends on how fast they mature hormonally, which can vary by breed, or even individual pullet.

The range of normal onset of production varies by breed and individual bird. 18-28 weeks with a +/- of 2 weeks is a general window for a lot of breeds

Meant to add, production bred lines (hatchery stock, etc) mature more quickly than exhibition bred lines
