So 4 of my 6 birds which were born last end of March are still not laying eggs. We had bought two additional birds halfway thru with the understanding they were younger than the rest. Obviosly not sure if that’s true as the two me were birds are already laying eggs the last few weeks but none of the others have started. I know patience is a virtue. But maybe they didn’t get the memo:)

You might have to have a lot of patience. As the days get shorter the chickens will be less likely to start laying. I am not saying that they won't lay this year for sure, just saying that the odds are lower. However, there is a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. Around February as the days get longer your girls should start to lay and they will lay a lot.

Thank you!

What breed of chicken and where are you located.
Seems like they are about 20 weeks old? Are their combs getting red?
The Combs are definitely getting red and or are fully in place. Breeds are all over. The two. That are laying are a mystic maran and an Issa Brown (got these at What I believed was 3 months of age). The 4 that are NOT laying are Astralaurp, Americauana, Barnvelder and a Rhode Island Red. (Have had those four since a week old). Not sure if it’s coincidental that while we are in the hudson valley of NY, it has been much colder than usual this time of year. Also, curious, maybe they don’t like where the other two are laying their eggs:). The location wasn’t always a nesting box. The original ones used to roost in there. I changed it up over two months ago as it seemed to tight for all 6. I then built roosting bars across from that room. Took the hay out and threw some sand in. I do have an actual nesting box i built, and it’s in another part of the run. 2 boxes divided by a wall and curtains 18 “ off the ground blah blah blah.. Maybe they’ll eventually check it out.
