Do you need a rooster for the to lay eggs?

If you are going to be using the eggs only to eat - No. You will not need a rooster.

However, if you plan on hatching chicks from the eggs, you will need a rooster to

fertilize them.

There are a lot of myths out there about chickens, many of them told by feed store employees, one of whom told me cracked corn was a proper diet for a laying hen. Feel fortunate you have BYC!
