When can chicks have laying feed? They're on chick starter (and other tasty morsels) now but have to go back to the farmer supply and want to know whether to return the laying feed for regular feed or keep it.

I generally advise waiting until they start laying, but definitely not before at least 16 weeks. Layer has a lower protein level and higher calcium level- both are unsuitable for chicks.

ETA, you can store the layer for later, if you have adequate dry storage that will keep bugs and moisture out.
