Hi everyone I have a question my Dads hens quit laying when the days got shorter. Does he need to put a light in there house or will they start back laying eventually? And how long might that be before they do start to lay?
Chickens require 14 hours of daylight for production...so.... you either wait til spring when the days get long enough....or...you add light to the coop in the morning to bring the total daylight to 14hrs. The hens can go to roost with normal light and still get er done. Just a simple 40watt or 60watt will work fine.
Without any additional light, the hens will rejuvinate their systems with the rest that mom nature thinks is best. Good Luck.
