laying hens

any one know how old rhode island red hens are before they start laying?

I don't remember for sure but it seems like mine were about 6-7 months old when they started I got them a couple of years ago before I started keeping good records. But in this heat mine have quit laying but lay great thru cool weather.

thanks I guess its still early then for mine they are just 41/2 months old. Guess I have to be a little more patient.

Yea be patient you be well rewarded when they start laying. I would llike to downsize and only have the RIR's but can't bring myself to do it.

I love my hens but my rooster is my favorite his like one of my kids. He follows us around the yard runs to the front yard to greet people when they come, pecks on the door and cries to come in the house, and if we live the house door open he will actually come in and sit in a chair to watch tv. His really great. I love my RIR.
