Thanks for the tips. I am using golf balls in the nest boxes, and most eggs are laid there. I still get a couple on the floor, but as all my girls are new to this, maybe I just have to let them sort it out.
Our nest boxes are on the opposite wall from the roost, and the roost is only a tad higher than the nests. The system works most of the time, and although a few hens originally tried to roost in the nests at night, now they all roost on the perch. So maybe they will eventually all lay in the nests and not the floor.
