opps, I mean oyster shells is suppose to make the eggs harder . Does that make the chicks have a hard time hatching?I could hear them chirpping for two days and three had died two hatched so far .

One needs a sturdy egg shell when keeping hens for eggs. Layer feed does provide the hens with a minimal level of calcium for shells and hen health. You sure don't want fragile eggs breaking inside the hen's tract nor in the nest. Our chicks have always succeeded in escaping. We don't change a thing during hatching season.

this is the first time I ever used oyster shells and I never had a proublem with my chicks hatching intell now so I thought it could have something to do with the oyster shells . could the eggs be too hard for the chicks to hatch out ?

i persoanlly dont think its the shells as they are used religiously here in uk and i have not heard of eggs being too hard for hatching

my hens have never had oyster shells until this summer they are two to three years old I didn't know to give it to them until I found byc . there eggs broke easily and I saw them eating them. I don't have that problem since I started feeding them the oyster shells. It must of been something else.

my eggs were due on the 21 two hatched three died while trying to hatch there are still more eggs .How long do I wait for the others to hatch before I take the eggs out and start again?I have never had this problem before.

I don't think your hatching problems are due to the oyster shells. As a chick embryo grows, it uses the calcium in the shell to make strong bones. This weakens the shell, so it is easier to get out. I am wondering if the problem might be one of those humidity/temperature, too much/not enough issues that are so hard to regulate.

I am having these issues myself. Every time I hatch, I change one more variable, hoping eventually I'll figure it out so I get for a 80-90% hatch.

I have had that problem before . we lost almost every single chick in the bator only a couple hatched , I think it is a humidity thing, one thing to make sure you do is do not open the incubator during hatching no matter how bad you want to and sometimes things are just off a little bit and cause a loss like this
