Hi everyone, I have a 21 week old EE that started laying last week, her first egg was cracked on the floor. The next one in the nest, 3rd by feeder, then I saw her lay one in the nest. I realized why the first was on the floor cracked. She is in the nest facing the back, her butt close to edge of front. Went out today, an egg on the floor under her nest. Should I turn her around when I see her? I'm not only concerned about the eggs, but her too. It's hot, I have a fan blowing toward the nests but she's in head first facing the back. When she gets out she drinks so much water some comes back up sometimes... any help is appreciated....

I wouldn't disturb her while she's in there. She may just get out and lay somewhere else if you do. Since she is new to laying she will probably get herself situated better the more she lays. When my girls first started laying I would occasionally find one in front of box or in run where they left the coop before laying. How big are your nest boxes?

Nest boxes are 10 or 12x16. Can't remember exactly. 4 of my others started laying 3 weeks ago and they all face the right way and dont seem to have problems. And this one turns around to get out, just not to lay her egg. Didn't know if it's something she will figure out on her own or if I needed to try to help her. Thanks!

That's definitely big enough boxes so I would say she will figure it out. She may be one that likes to feel hidden in there so she faces backwards. I have 2 that face the corner and occasionally I find one in front of box but normally even with head in a corner she gets it in the box.

Ok thanks. I appreciate the feedback..
