My Wyandottes have not been the best layers, and have NEVER been bullies. Aart, what hatchery did yours come from? I've had MMc in the past and currently Cackle.

GLWs, I have no clue. Bought them as adults in my first flock, one was a ferocious bitch. SLWs I bought on a whim for a B&W bird, probably came from Townline Hatchery, got them at farm store. They are not too terrible, yet, but definitely assertive to the birds. One is very 'friendly' with me, she was probably head bird of the baby batch this year.....she was first to lay, would actually get aggressive and chase the cockerel off before the old cockbird was removed, then she readily submitted. They're pretty birds but ...meh. All of them definitely could have come from Townline, where they must have a vicious line of Wy's.My Wyandottes have not been the best layers, and have NEVER been bullies. I haven't experienced that aspect of the breed. I believe because of all the room mine have, and that they aren't confined to a run. I was surprised to read that they were considered bullies because mine never have been....and bullies. Have had GLW before and SLW now.
I guess 'the bitch' was always one, so her prior owner told me,I haven't experienced that aspect of the breed. I believe because of all the room mine have, and that they aren't confined to a run. I was surprised to read that they were considered bullies because mine never have been.

even at her free range home she had before coming to live in my chicken gulag.
My GLW's are not mean, they are very timid though, cant really get close to them unlike my Buffs, they love everybody and allow us to hold them.I'll testify that Wyandottes are amazing layers. I have a SLW that laid through her seventh year. GLWs are another story, their temperament can be so extremely unpleasant. I had one, the first year she went broody, demolish the broody-breaker cage she was in and escaped. She hated me right up until she died last year at age seven. I think she was the only chicken I've ever had that hated me consistently her entire life.
