Laying Strike

Hello! We have 4 welsh harlequin ducks (2 18mo and 2 2.5yo) and 1 drake. The 18mo molted in late August and we introduced the 2.5yo ducks around this time. Since then no one has laid any eggs. Last winter our girls laid all winter with no supplemental light. They are fed a 17% poultry layer. Any thoughts as to what could be going on? Should I be adding supplemental light and if so how do you do that? They are not in a coop but have a run with an insulated shelter. We are in Alberta.

You birds will often lay through their first winter. After that they need time to rebuild their reserves and to molt each fall and into early winter.

After their first year, my ducks quit laying in winter. They are winding down now and will probably start in February
