I have 4 hens, 11 weeks old, a 3x10 indoor coop attached to a 10x10 outdoor run. It's not super hot here in Michigan (about 75 and sunny today) but I've noticed the birds are almost always inside when I go out to visit them. They just sorta lay in a pile and sleep most of the day.
They seem healthy, but I guess I'd expect to find them (more often than not) pecking around outside on a nice day like today. Does it matter? Do I just have lazy chickens? Is my expectation that chickens are normally around rooting through the dirt just plain wrong?
Whatta ya think?
