Lazy Peachick

Here is the list of things I suspect:

  • Blackhead
  • E. coli (almost always happens with blackhead)
  • Worms
  • Coccidiosis
  • Dehydration

Kathy, do you think that the dimethox (sulfa) the bird has gotten for four days was not effective against whatever cocci may have been present? Should the sulfa now be discontinued?

Also, I don't think he gave the albendazole today, since we got busy with the baytril and the fluid replenishment. How do you want to add that in to the schedule. At what point should he give it? I was kinda thinking after the fluids had a chance to settle.

And third, I think, but am not certain that the bird got the metronidazole today (he has already had two days of it), if not, that surely should continue. AugeredIn suggested it would be more effective to crush it and give it with a little water. Would you do that the same time as the albendazole after the fluids, if the bird has not yet had today's dose?

Outstanding

Is he starting to perk up? Sometimes fluids seem almost magical when someone or something is sick...
No, not yet.

Just got back, bought both pedialyte and Gatorade, which one i should start with?

Got two of Pedialyte, one with apple flavor and one with cherry flavor.

Gatorade, one with lemon flavor and one with fruit punch.

:(

Any luck finding something like pedialyte?

How long since the first round of fluids?  Is it almost time for another round?

Yup, its an hour and 10 minutes, should i warm these drinks too?

I would use the Pedialyte warmed like you did with the water. No sugar! Also give one of the Chevi Kok capsules.

And let me add to what Kathy said, start with the APPLE pedialyte.

If that cherry-flavored pedialyte has any dye in it (if it's pink or red) and the bird passes the dye through to its poop, we are all going to have heart attacks and pass out when we see the photos, thinking the bird is passing blood

Ditto the fruit punch gatorade.

Having raised small children and having nearly had heart attacks over technicolor poo from food dyes in junk food.... Red dyes are pervasive, but I've also seen really weird results from the super blue and green sugar bombs and frosting. The food dye passes through but sometimes is a new color on the other end
