Leaking waterers

We have waterers from RP, not exactly but much like the one in the picture. You flip it upside and twist off the bottom and fill it. There's one hole and supposedly it stops filling the bottom when full. I've had so many issues with it all leaking out! Two of them! What am I doing wrong????? They're not hanging, I have them on wood blocks, to keep them out of the pine shavings (although they throw them anyway). Please help me!

Are they level? That type of waterer is finicky about that.

If they are not level they will leak. I had a new one leak regardless of where or how I placed it. Recently threw that one away.

If you can get it mostly level and point the hole downhill you should be good. I did have one similar style that didn't attach very firmly to the base, but others have been fine. Hanging it, if possible, would work as well.

Yes.
If you cant get it totally level, sit it with the water hole pointing down hill.
That will work.

Exactly. If the hole is downhill, water will flow out until the hole is covered, then stop. (That's the way this design works.) If the hole is uphill, water keeps flowing and flowing, because it'll just spill out over the low edge, and the hole never gets covered.

Thanks all! It's not completely level as pine shavings + wood blocks etc but it's mostly level. And I try to point the hole downwards the little bit that it does angle. I'm ready to get these guys outside LOL

Hanging these types of waterers they are always level, if sitting on the ground or up on blocks the hole needs to be on the lower side so the water stops the air from entering the waterer..

It is on the lower side but still dumped almost three gallons in a couple hours

Are they level? That type of waterer is finicky about that.

Hang it if at all possible. Even if that means having to give chicks steps to stand on.
