I've had leaky hose problems too, usually it's gasket issues. But I have found some fittings don't play well together. On another version of the bucket waterer, the float valve is a plastic unit I picked up from the local farm supply store. That valve assembly doesn't like the metal hose fittings, only plastic fittings. Plus, you really have to play with the unit a few times to make sure water isn't splashing/spraying out of the bucket and modify as needed.
Once I have more time I'll post the second version of the auto waterer.
